Today's lecture was a good exercise in discovering that the rights and responsibilities of students and teachers in different countries share more similarities than differences, which was contrary to my expectations. Some of the highlights for me were: Changing profile of Chinese students, problems encountered by teachers in the U.S.A. and the lack of objective and efficient support, guidance and evaluation systems for Indian government teachers.
I will be able to utilize this new knowledge in real-life situations as below:
1) Applying due process to teachers who are not performing as expected in a fair and supportive manner, in accordance with their rights.
2) Being aware of the students rights as well as responsibilities to be able to strike a fine balance between discipline and fun at my school.
3) This lecture has already motivated me to learn more about my own rights and responsibilities as an educator in my own country, Australia, which I had neglected to do so before.
I learned from today’s class that teacher’s rights are very similar in most countries. Teachers cannot be discriminated based on racial, sexual, or religious background. Although teachers have freedom of expression, they are very limited. For example: Teachers cannot express what they really believe based on their religious preferences. It is very important for teachers to be aware of rights and regulations of the country they are teaching so that they can protect themselves. I really enjoy the presentation about Thailand since I’m currently teaching in Thailand. They presented about the cultural background of Thailand, the nature of Thai teachers who use “a soft and polite approach” to get cooperation, and the nature of Thai students who pay respect to the teachers. I wasn’t aware of the teachers’ rights in Thailand, and I found the presentation very useful. Three things I want to apply in my life are: 1) I need to document all the incidents happen in the class and report everything to my Department Head so that I can get needed help and support from the school if there is a complaint from parents. 2) Treat all students equally and love them as individuals. Don’t show favoritism to the students. 3) Teaching is a difficult job. Teachers can get stressed out from the amount of workload they have such as teaching, lesson planning, grading and not to mention that teachers need to be alert in class all the time so that they know what the students are up to. Teachers usually are worn out after school. It is a reminder that I need to take care of myself and follow the stress management tips to avoid teacher burnout. If I am too stressed out, I won’t be able to perform my best in the classroom.
Today's class made me realize that, for our own good sake we should now about our rights as a teacher, student, parent or even as a citizen. Cause if you are ignorant of your rights, you can have them easily exploited. Related to this, my three applications are as follows:
1)Before signing a contract with any school, make sure that I read every page in details and carefully.
2)Assign my students to learn about their rights as a student and report back to me.
3)Arrange a session with my students to discuss about their opinions on the points which they think their rights should be improved.
Learning the rights of students and teachers help us a lot to evaluate ourselves in the educational field. All the rights are similar but they have the differences a little bit according to the culture and belief. For example, we came to know about the nature of students from Thailand is very helpful for us to be the teacher in Thailand and Texas teacher’s tenure also. Amazingly we found out that India teachers don’t have the staff meeting. Another fact is that China has three levels of teachers which will need to sit for the exam to get to the higher level. By combining all the knowledge from tonight’s presentation and I have below applications. 1-Students need to know clearly about their rights and which they are forbidden to do. I want to do the orientation before the learning starts like we have here in ABAC. All the students’ role, rules and regulations, forbidden things, some introduction for the subjects will be explaining there as we usually don’t have the orientation in our country. 2-By learning the India system, I want to make sure of custom for regular staff meetings where the teachers will discuss problems which they have to face at the classroom and learn from each others. 3-For the foreign teacher, we still will need to learn the cultures and the background of the students. For example, the caste system from India which cannot be touch by the teachers in the classroom and the nature of the students like most Asian students don’t have much response to teacher in class, they avoid the eye contact and afraid of losing face in the class so that we may become the better and helpful teachers for the students.
Today's discussion about the legal aspects of education, rights of teachers and students was outstanding! For me,each legal aspects follow the culture of a certain country. Like for example in India, students are not given the proper information about sex education, and this is because of their culture. So sad that due to this matter, high cases of HIV is a big problem in their country. Another issue is, there is a limited guidance from their fellow teachers and they can't even discuss problems arising in their own classroom. I think staff meeting is important to discuss problems in your class. In the U.S.A., teachers have academic freedom but they are not allowed to promote political agenda, which I think is better, less talk, less mistakes. The only thing is that they can't express themselves, they're like in a nutshell. They also said that tenured teachers become relax at the end of their teaching careers, which is unfair for the students. Students need active and versatile teachers and that the government should look into this matter. In China, students in a classroom ranges from 35-97, I just wonder how would the students be able to learn in this kind of environment and it's a big responsibility for the teacher too. I like the rights given to both teachers and students in Ontario,Canada. I read that they even supply 'milk' (as part of their health program) to these children, free education (from elem. to secondary levels), free transportation and board and they also have health insurance. Parents are so lucky! In thailand, I agree that students are very respectful. They treat their teachers(both Thai and Foreign teachers) as their second parents in school.Personally, I see Thai students a bit shy, reason why they avoid eye contact especially during class recitations. It was also mentioned that Thai teachers don't have that much teaching techniques in their classroom.
My applications would be the following: 1) As a teacher, I want to apply various teaching techniques/methods to my students, for them to internalized more and apply it in a real situation.Skills that students will need as adult. 2) To know more about my rights as a teacher here in Thailand. To conduct myself in a mature and sensible manner, and to be straight in whatever I do. 3) I will treat my students equally without bias or descrimination for them to have a positive learning environment. I think it will help them behave in appropriate manners.
The class on teacher and student’s rights was very interesting. I feel these rights are being highly affected by globalization and not far from now most of the teacher’s and student’s rights of all the countries will almost be the same. The following is the list of how I will apply the information I have received in class with my students.
Applications 1. Awareness: Create awareness among students about their rights. It is their rights to know and be informed.
2. Debate: Let students debate over their rights. This will give them a better understanding of the rights and why they have those rights.
3. Rights of the students in the school: Let students come up with their rights as students of the school and the limitations on those rights and why they have been given those rights and why not.
It was very interesting to discuss the students' rights and teacher rights of different countries. For western countries,I think that there would be the official statements about teachers/students rights, but I am not sure about eastern countries. As I am in the "group of Thailand education", I tried to find the rights of Thailand students which is legally and officially stated, but I could not find it.Instead, I found an article which is like a national policy that students and teachers can refer to it. But, in the class, I learned a number of students/teachers rights, especially western countries. As my applications: 1- The most important thing for me I aware is that, in the future, I have to read carefully the contracts of any school, before I sign it. Because it is important to make sure that whether it has enough the rights that a teacher should have or not. 2-As teachers have rights and responsibilities, I feel that students should know their rights and obligations. 3- I learned that I need to learn some labor law and policy of other countries,if i will be a teacher in foreign countries.
I gain a lot of knowledge of the rights of teacher and student in education from this class. From group’s presentation and discussion, I come to realize that most countries education rights are integrated with their culture and religion. For example, in India, teaching about sex is prohibit because of their religion and in some Christian schools, teachers and students are not allowed to talk about Christianity in school. Teachers are represented as the same role with parents in Thailand and compared to my country (Myanmar), the culture is the same too. In China, it is good that teachers get promote by level to level. 1. Since, right and forbidden are the fundamental rules for education and each countries for their good future, administer need to attentive all perspectives. I agree the point that what will happen on surrounding of the country is trend to think that children don't have rights, or have fewer rights. 2. Schools should have regular meeting for discussion on problems and compose right that benefit for both teacher and students. As a teacher, in my opinion, rights tend to responsibilities. 3. As a teacher, before apply in a school; first observe carefully culture, right, and job security.
Today's class was quite different than I had expected. After knowing the differences in the education system from last week, I had expected the teacher's and students rights to differ too. But as my expectations the outcome was a contrary. I have realized that as a student or a teacher, wherever you are your rights will be the same all over the world. One thing i really liked in class was the end, everyone was asked to come out and write what education means to everyone. From there I got to know that different people have different expectations and opinions about education.
3 Applications:
1. Help students to know their rights and make sure that they are aware of the rights in a school as a student and as a human being.
2. Before joining any school study about the environment and about the rights given to you as a teacher, and make sure that we don't take advantage as we are here to help in spreading knowledge.
3. My defination for education was to give knowledge to those who need it and help them as they grow in this globalized world. This will be one of my important application to spred knowledge all around.
This week’s discussion has not only helped me to understand and realize the importance of teachers’ and students’ right, but also the significance of the teacher’s roles in education. The legal rights for teachers and students are generally similar but there are also differences in decree according to the geographical area, social difference, culture and religious belief. Apparently, all these legal acts and rights are there so that teachers can educate and teach more effectively and students can learn better too. As I am now teaching in Thailand, today’s presentation really help me a lot in understanding the culture as well as the teachers’ right that I have being an International teacher. Thailand is a country of having much respect to teachers as well as education. However, as people that value “faces” a lot, they might be more conservative and cautious in open classes that encourage more interaction between students and teachers. In addition, parents in Thai School might value disciplinary actions from the teachers while parents in International School will require the school not to hold harsh or hard punishment towards their children. Other than that, the activities of writing everyone’s own definition of education really open up my eyes as I realized that education today is serving such a wide range of purposes in an individual’s life through many different ways and aspects.
Therefore, this leads to 3 applications that I want to learn and apply in the real life:
(1) Search and file all the necessary copies of documents regarding the legal rights of International Teachers teaching in Thailand for own references and security.
(2) As I am teaching in an international school with students from different country, I should at least learn to understand the major aspects of the culture from different countries so that I know how to teach, understand, love and care for my students with minimal cultural conflict.
(3) I need to always remind myself that education is a way of life. It is not limited only in classroom, school or academic institution, but it is a way of living, a way of knowing each other and preparing an individual to become a better person. Therefore, I feel the importance of being a good living example to others as in my opinion, each individual way of living is a life lesson to everyone around them.
I have learned a lot about teachers and students right in different country, most is similar, but some is different follow the differnt culture.I think it's useful for me whatever as a student or teacher in future(I never teach someone before) After this class I will application like this. 1, so far,I'm still a student,i will study hard and respect teacher.Basic on students right,i will try my best to get more education. 2,If I will be a teacher in future,i will be a good teacher,I won't bias any student, and show favor to any student, and do my best to complete teacher's responsibility. 3, In the same time i also will protect myself right.
This week class was very informative regarding the teacher's and student's rights. We got to learn a lot about different countries rights such as China, Thailand, Canada, India and the States. Most countries share a lot of rights in common. From this lesson, I can apply this knowledge in the classroom in the following ways: - Make students aware of their rights. Discuss with them in class and ask follow up questions to make sure they understand. - Understand own rights as a teacher in different countries so that it would not be exploit by the school. - Treat all students equally, no matter what their race, ethnic group and status background is.
we had a great dicussion about the students' and teachers' rights in five different countries on the day of week 5th. It was very fantastic as I got invaluable knowledge about students' and teachers' rigthts from the other groups' presentation. To my surprised, there is a conspicuous issues regarding students' and teachers' rights in western countries' educadtion systems and in their cultures. In the eastern countries, in contrast, the rights of students and teachers are not described obviously, like the west, in their education systems. However, the ways of respecting teachers shown by eastern countries' students are very unique because their strong culture teaches them to pay homage and respect to elders, parents and teachers. In my point of view as an easterner, it would be better to overlap the strong culture with the rights. Applications 1. we must introduce the basic students' rights to our students in order to be able to express their satisfaction and dissatisfaction during their studies. 2. Then we must also let them know the limitation of their rights before the unexpected problems occured. 3. Finally, we must encourage our students to hold on the good points of our culture while adapting a news culture.
From this week’s presentation and discussion, I learned legal aspects of educational systems in different countries. I was especially interested in teachers’ rights and students’ rights in Thailand since I am teaching at Thai university and all of my students and most of my colleagues are Thai. It was good to know foreign teachers’ rights in Thailand. It was also quite interesting to hear about Thai culture and some characteristics of Thai students and teachers (such as “face-saving” and compromise, which are often seen in Thai society). I can see these characteristics in my own Thai students and fellow teachers.
3 applications
1) I found that my university does not have very clear systems or regulations for foreign teachers (since there are very few foreign teachers at my university). Therefore, I need to know more about my rights as a teacher so that I can protect myself when some problems occur. 2) In order to have a good relationship with my Thai colleagues and bosses, I also need to know how problems are usually dealt with in Thai society. When problems occur or decisions have to be made, they may not really follow the regulations. But it is probably Thai way, and depending on situations, we need to accept it. 3) I agree that Thai students are aware of saving face and losing face, and that they always pay respect to teachers. As a teacher teaching in Thailand, I need to know there cultural characteristics so that I won’t unintentionally treat them in an unrespectful way or hurt their feelings.
Week five was very delicious and precious. As a western student, week five discussion which is about students' and teachers' rights shined my mind to realized clearer and clearer about rights. As for me, i did not know about my student's right when i was studying in state school or there were not rights for students and also teachers. However, there are many roles and disciplines for teachers and students. In my opinion, all of the things, education, education system, disciplines, rights, are formed according to the philosophy, culture and belief.
Applications,
1)As for administrators or school heads, they should have not only desciplines but also rights for teachers and students very clearly.
2)As for teachers and students, they should know all of the desciplines and rights for them in school.
From week 5 class,I learn about legal rights for students and teachers of many countries and I found that they are quite similar to each other only some differences in details, base on the culture or believe of their society. The regal rights in Thailand is very interested me.According to their culture and also the soft and gentle characteristics of Thai people, like they are so much worry about losing face or face saving, when they have to solve problems they prefer friendly talk or compromise to aggressive way ever they have right to do so,that I think,it is very unique style. 3 applications, according to the school administrator,
1.Find the ways to promote and maintain a conducive and unprejudiced educational environment where students or teachers who believe that he/she has been treated unfairly.
2.Educate students parents and teachers about their regal rights aspact of education to guide them ways to manage their problems and their responsibilities.
3.Have a mediator to co-ordinate between students and teachers to deal with their problems or any complains.
Venus (Jinxin) Here are the key points what we are talking about in the fifth week: In USA. (Taxas) Typical teachers’ rights: Freedom from discrimination, academic, expression (not related with the school), association, religion, privacy rights, age, pregnancy. Tenure is important for USA and Canada First two years put efforts and the ten years teaching become relax Students’ right( limited) Compulsory education. Freedom of Speech. School Discipline. Search and Seizure. Public school is in low-income, and vocational school is high. USA students cannot touch the students unless the students touch them first. India The Right to Education Bill ---6~14 years old free and compulsory education. No child left behind. A fixed student-teacher ratio Will apply to all of India except Jammu and Kashmir. Provides for 25% reservation for economic disadvantages students Students’ Rights Can contact with other students from various countries as unofficial ambassadors of India. Teachers’ Rights One of the most respectable professions in India. (respect as god) Receive instructions from the head teacher, and are very close to the head teacher and senior authority so no system to check her inefficiency. No regular of staff meetings---helpful for teachers, but limited in India. Sex education, caste issues, highest number of HIV (5.3million) Dalits children are the lowest. Grievance Procee Ontario education system Students Rights They have chance to tell the government what they want to make publicly funded education system better. They have opportunity to make different in classroom, work-study job in campus and part-time employment during the year Canada Double system---Christian Thai Face-saving Application: 1. The teacher’s self-reflection and improvement is very important. Honestly speaking, the market of teaching Chinese is much unorganized. No teachers meeting, no rules, no strict assessment, and all of these really make a potential challenges for teacher. In Thailand, for instance, take the thai government school for example, I haven’t get any complain from it for my late for school in 15 minutes. I really appreciate, however, as a teacher; my moral and responsibility wake me up to being earlier next time. Even you are a tenured professor in Canada and USA. 2. As a good teacher, we should understand the right of students. It also benefit for teachers ourselves. Sometimes, we know what our responsibility is and what students’ limit is. In China, after we have lots of things happened, such as teacher beat students, which arouse the huge attentions by the society and parents. Other teachers may meet these kinds of situations: they are afraid of teaching students rights from wrongs because they are afraid of the criticisms from outsides. 3. Some sensitive questions are also very important. For instance, sex education. As good teacher, we should find a better way to teach, which will have good effect on students, instead of solving the problems after students meet this kind of confused or mistakes in the future.
Week 5 Reflections Last week’s class was interesting as we learned about the different legal aspects of education in various countries. However what struck me the most was at the end of the class, when Dr. Wattana told the class to write what education was to them on the chalkboard. There were some really interesting points made out that really struck a chord with me. These are what I will mainly base my applications on. 1. Someone wrote “Education is the way to find potential inside and let it grow”. This quote sums up for me what education really is to me as well. For the teacher, it means to help students find what they are good at and encourage and help them develop that. In essence, it means to me to help students find themselves and their worth. I think that it can be applied to any grade level even for me teaching at a kindergarten level. As a kindergarten teacher, I can apply this principle in encouraging students in everything they do well. 2. Secondly, someone wrote, “Education is the future,” adding to that Dr. Wattana said that education was an investment and was everywhere. Reflecting on this I realized that education really is an investment. Not only do student put their time and money into studying, teacher’s do as well. Teacher’s put in time in planning, teaching, giving care and more. This means for me that I not only engage in education while I’m teaching the class but I’m also learning while I prepare. While I’m preparing I learn how to plan, manage time, and learn from my mistakes. To add to that, I realized that it is continuous. Teachers will always have to invest in their students and students will always have to give their time to teachers. I think that anyone who is a teacher or student is applying this already. 3. Lastly, while my group was presenting one student stated to me that teachers are civil servants. I have to admit, I was a bit taken aback by that because I never thought of it that way. The truth is, in my opinion, we are servants to society and the community. As a kindergarten teacher I am a servant to my student’s parents in partnering with them in the development of their child. I do not mean that I’m a slave or that I am a push over. However, what I want to highlight is that as a teacher I have to put my students first before myself and even my lesson plans. I have to do things that are appropriate for them to help them grow to reach their fullest potential. Dr. Wattana pleaded at the end of class that we are here to help the children of Thailand. I think it’s very important to see this profession in that light. There are many other interesting points that were made that night. Honestly I wish I could remember them all. However, more and more I come to realize how important and challenging being a teacher is. At the same time though I’ve come to realize that to be teacher you need to believe in people, you have to find the best in people help it grow, and you have to like them- no matter what. Education is truly a noble cause and not one to be taken lightly.
The lectures in the fifth week so important for education ,for us .through this week ,I know there are some difference about teacher’s right and student’s right in different country .but , mainly rights are similar ,for example , for teacher : freedom speech right , Scientific research right ,teaching right , gaining remunerations right ,managing students right , further learning and developing right ……. • For student : freedom speech right; have equal opportunity to receive education in school ; get fair evaluation in the academic achievement and character ;get corresponding academic certificates; diplomas after complete legal studies; have the right to appeal when they suffering unjustly punished in school ; Application : 1,as a teacher ,we must to respect and protect students’ right in the education process. In my memory ,a English teacher of my school slapped a student when he can’t controlled naughty student ,and the same day ,he was prosecuted by student’s parents, and was fired .it’s a very impressive issue. 2, as a teacher need to use legal protect self rights and interests. As Saharat ‘s lecture ,in China ,sometime , further learning and developing right for teacher was limited, and sometimes, defaults teacher’s salary .these issues are Violation of educational legal. We can require get a fair treatment . 3, Understanding of other countries' educational legal , will help us improve our country's education regulations .
Week 5 reflections and thoughts I learned about the rights and responsibilities of students and teachers in different countries. The interested thing for me is Teacher as God, one of the the most respectable profession in India and they still have the caste system. For Ontario education system, student can tell the government what they want to make Ontario's publicly funded education system better and student can do part-time job in campus. At the end of week 5, Dr. Wattana said Education is investment that I realize that it is true because we have to pay something for education.
Three applications 1. I will make the class for open-mind for students who can show the opinion of school.
2. I will treat students in equal.
3. I will be ethical for teaching in the class. Not only for teaching but everything that i have to do in the future.
Week five presentation or discussion about legal aspects of education rights of teachers and students in five countries caught my expectations to focus on teacher's right and student's right in the school. Then, review process in a school was also important to go along the successful path to the future education. In Ontario education in Canada, although there are various review process, I have learned only two review processes-curriculum process and governance review committee to the minister of education of Ontario- in week five.
Three applications: 1) Helping my students knowing their rights and what they are forbidden apparently in the school is one of my expectations of teacher life in the future. 2) This lecture of week five has reminded me to know teacher's rights and responsibilities in the rest of my teaching life. 3) I suppose that review process of curriculum is one of the most significant methods for promoting students' skills. Clarifying the roles of individual trustees, board chairs and directors of education and promoting student achievement and well being, delivering effective and appropriate programs will lead a successful education.
week five discussion was extra knowledge to share about.Accepts of very few issues that had occured in India like staff or teachers meeting are rarely held, considering teachers as parents and God, and then not to talk communism in China therefore, "soft and polite approches" in Thailand and standard of Care and Duty is not the same in the level of students in Canada,moreover, even accadamic freedom is possessed for teachers in U.S.A, political agenda is not allowed to promote when more similarities issues were discuessed rather than differences of teachers rights in different countries. Based on the above, I would apply;
- Issues that concerning to the teachers and students rights, responsibilities and law are mandatory duty to be learned in the educational field. - As well-awared the basic issues based on the last week sharing, schools can be held liable for failure to maintain a safe environment. - Again based on the issues, to resolve conflict means to encourage the use of non-violent.
Reflection #4 Last week we discussed about the legal aspects of the education systems in some selected countries. The discussion made me realize why my students behave the way they do. The discussion also gave me an inside into how culture affects the legal aspects of various groups in a society, particularly with regard to students and teachers. This was clearly shown through the differences that exist in the rights of the students and teachers in the countries discussed. But all in all the basic rights are all the same everywhere. Applications 1. Teach my students that the fundamental rights of students are the same everywhere in the world. 2. I should be considerate and understanding when dealing with behaviours of my students. 3. Teach my students that culture dictates why they experience certain things that are not experienced everywhere.
Week five presentations focused on students and teachers rights. We could hear about what rights the students and teachers have in different countries. I noticed that the right those two groups have are very similar and they do not differ to much from country to country. What differs is how they are applied. From my experience, and from what I have read and seen even though the rights are pretty much the same throughout the world they are not always respected and this is something that should be take care of.
Applications: 1. As an administrator I should make my students and teacher aware of their rights. I should make sure they know their rights.
1. As an administrator I should not only know the rights of my students and teachers but I should also make sure that the rights are respected.
2. As a teacher I should respect my students' rights.
Week 5 basically contained presentations from different groups talking about the legal rights teacher and students have in different countries. However, there are many similarities when it comes to teacher's and student's rights in the sense if we're talking about aspects like discrimination, sexual harassment cases etc, every country has their own laws to ensure the protection of both teachers and students. My applications would be:
1)If I plan to teach overseas then I better read that country's rules and regulations properly, even though many of the laws are similar, I still need to make sure I read it properly especially as a foreigner in that country, it would just make it easier for the officials to pick on me otherwise.
2)However much the similarities and differences, even though I'm not working in that country, as a teacher I should respect every country's laws, especially when I know that I'm being a role model for my students.
3)When we're talking about discrimination, as a teacher, I shouldn't pick favorites amongst my students.
we had dissuted about rights of teachers and students. As I hand learned, rights and responsibility of teacher or student that had legislated by basically culture of country. So, learn a system or rights whatever certain of country, the first thing have to know the social system of that. However, some rights and responsibility quite similar in different countrise, like nondiscrimination principle and equally treatment each student ect.
Application: -As a teacher who teaching in Thailand, at first I have to learn relevant law or regulation about education and to know which rights and responsibility that the teacher and students have as well as peformance.
We have learned about the Legal aspects of education, rights of teachers and students from many different countries. knowing about thai culture and nature of students help me to teach students well in thailand. As well as we have learned that indian education system and rights and limitation of teachers in india. 1. According to the Thai culture, I could use the soft and polite approach rather than force them and let them do their study in serious way. 2.We need to discuss the problems or difficulties and cooperate among the fellow teachers to find out the right solution and help the students. 3. Teachers should involve with respect to school curriculum so that teachers will have empowerment, innovation in terms of experimenting with new learning tools.
Week 5 presentation was very exciting. I learned five counntris education systems. Many countrie's system have similar and a few differences. My country is Korea. Korea is similar to that of Asia at the training step. Nowadays Korean the trend is to accept western education system. Dr. wattana asked the end of the lesson, "What is Education?" , I think "Education is develop a human being."
Apprication :: 1. I understand the culture of internation studends and teaching will be helpful. 2. I learned about the grievance procee in the curriculum of many countries. I also was thinking about solutions. 3. I will choose the best curriculum of each country and apply it in my classroom.
Finding out the legal rights of teachers and students in different countries was interesting because some countries such do not exist. If focusing on each country as a whole, right and responsibilities of teachers and students value education differently. Many factors that influence what people think and expect the role ought to be in their culture. Reading the many comments of others, it had enriched me exceptionally. Especially I thought that most of International School, teachers and students rights would be more. I realized that I taught at a school that followed the American curriculum. Most of the teachers are foreigner. Students are very much well respected. It’s pretty much followed by the same rules as I have taught in the U.S. Through the reading of comments of others, I am very much appreciated because I learned that it varied from country to country. I realized the more freedom that people have the more demand that they made. I like what Ms.Hnin Ei Ei Phyu had said that the more rights they have the more responsibilities there is for their actions. That’s right, in the States there are so many legal rights action being sued between teachers and students. I think it’s all fall back to those who did not take their responsibilities seriously or stepping over the boundaries of other. The role of a teacher will be challenging because some have taken for granted. I like teaching in Thailand because teachers role are more respected and students wants to learn. I realized that it is very important that each take our part. I am inspired to teach my students the make-up of rules as a contract that teacher and students will keep to show our respect of each other. Applications: 1. I am taking my responsibility as a teacher seriously so that earning the rights of respect will have more meaning to my role as an educator. 2. I will continue to be sensitive to the differences of cultures by learning what they value and respect. 3. In the classroom, I will work with my students to make up class rules that my students and I can keep. -sr. Rose
This week presentation is all about students and teachers rights in school. Well...it was an interesting class again because of I heard something strange about students rights that I didn't notice. Even now I am studying EA , I also interested in Teaching and when I heard about the teachers rights in the school , I think We really need to take care of relationship between Students and Teachers to get a good relationship.
Well, in my country , most of the people knows nothing about that kind of Teachers and Students rights. I was thinking what kind of students rights did I get from the school. It's so shame to talk about most of our country teachers are misunderstood about their rights and lacking ability of understanding the students rights. It happen in every school like, from Kindergarten to University level. I watched myanmar videos yesterday and it reminds me something about this week presentation. In university class , one students is sleeping. When teacher saw that student, he call him to come near him and tell a student to apologize and go away from the class! Is that fair? Is that teachers right or Student rights?
Application.
1. From the point of administrator views , I will try to let all the teachers and students to know they have their rights in school. A good relationship between students and teachers would be good benefits for school and it also can forget their family matters at home and make them feel school as their.
2.Teachers and school administrator should know , school is students second home and they want Love, kindness from everyone one in the school. Lovely words can change their life!
3. As a teacher , I will always try to listen their voices even I am so busy. Most of the students are spending around 10 hours in their school and they want the love what they can not get from their parents at home. So making good understanding between students and teachers lead to good relationship.

Kind regards,
Dr. Murat Kiymaz
Three things I want to apply in my life are:
1) I need to document all the incidents happen in the class and report everything to my Department Head so that I can get needed help and support from the school if there is a complaint from parents.

My applications would be the following:
1) As a teacher, I want to apply various teaching techniques/methods to my students, for them to internalized more and apply it in a real situation.Skills that students will need as adult.
2) To know more about my rights as a teacher here in Thailand. To conduct myself in a mature and sensible manner, and to be straight in whatever I do.
3) I will treat my students equally without bias or descrimination for them to have a positive learning environment. I think it will help them behave in appropriate manners.
Cheers! Ms Evan
The class on teacher and student’s rights was very interesting. I feel these rights are being highly affected by globalization and not far from now most of the teacher’s and student’s rights of all the countries will almost be the same. The following is the list of how I will apply the information I have received in class with my students.
Applications
As my applications:
1- The most important thing for me I aware is that, in the future, I have to read carefully the contracts of any school, before I sign it.
Refection # 5

I have learned a lot about teachers and students right in different country, most is similar, but some is different follow the differnt culture.I think it's useful for me whatever as a student or teacher in future(I never teach someone before)
After this class I will application like this.

From this lesson, I can apply this knowledge in the classroom in the following ways:
- Make students aware of their rights. Discuss with them in class and ask follow up questions to make sure they understand.
- Understand own rights as a teacher in different countries so that it would not be exploit by the school.
- Treat all students equally, no matter what their race, ethnic group and status background is.
Navnita Charucharoen
we had a great dicussion about the students' and teachers' rights in five different countries on the day of week 5th.
Applications
1. we must introduce the basic students' rights to our students in order to be able to express their satisfaction and dissatisfaction during their studies.
Thanks!

Week five reflections and thoughts,
Week five was very delicious and precious.

Here are the key points what we are talking about in the fifth week:
In USA. (Taxas)
Typical teachers’ rights:
Freedom from discrimination, academic, expression (not related with the school), association, religion, privacy rights, age, pregnancy.
Tenure is important for USA and Canada
First two years put efforts and the ten years teaching become relax
Students’ right( limited)
Compulsory education. Freedom of Speech. School Discipline. Search and Seizure.
Public school is in low-income, and vocational school is high.
USA students cannot touch the students unless the students touch them first.
India
The Right to Education Bill ---6~14 years old free and compulsory education. No child left behind. A fixed student-teacher ratio
Will apply to all of India except Jammu and Kashmir.
Provides for 25% reservation for economic disadvantages students
Students’ Rights
Can contact with other students from various countries as unofficial ambassadors of India.
Teachers’ Rights
One of the most respectable professions in India. (respect as god)
Receive instructions from the head teacher, and are very close to the head teacher and senior authority so no system to check her inefficiency.
No regular of staff meetings---helpful for teachers, but limited in India.
Sex education, caste issues, highest number of HIV (5.3million)
Dalits children are the lowest.
Grievance Procee
Ontario education system
Students Rights
They have chance to tell the government what they want to make publicly funded education system better.
They have opportunity to make different in classroom, work-study job in campus and part-time employment during the year
Canada
Double system---Christian
Thai
Face-saving
Application:
Week 5 Reflections
Last week’s class was interesting as we learned about the different legal aspects of education in various countries.

The lectures in the fifth week so important for education ,for us .through this week ,I know there are some difference about teacher’s right and student’s right in different country .but , mainly rights are similar ,for example ,
for teacher : freedom speech right , Scientific research right ,teaching right , gaining remunerations right ,managing students right , further learning and developing right …….
• For student : freedom speech right; have equal opportunity to receive education in school ; get fair evaluation in the academic achievement and character ;get corresponding academic certificates; diplomas after complete legal studies; have the right to appeal when they suffering unjustly punished in school ;
Application :
1,as a teacher ,we must to respect and protect students’ right in the education process. In my memory ,a English teacher of my school slapped a student when he can’t controlled naughty student ,and the same day ,he was prosecuted by student’s parents, and was fired .it’s a very impressive issue.
2, as a teacher need to use legal protect self rights and interests. As Saharat ‘s lecture ,in China ,sometime ,
further learning and developing right for teacher was limited, and sometimes, defaults teacher’s salary .these issues are Violation of educational legal. We can require get a fair treatment .
3, Understanding of other countries' educational legal , will help us improve our country's education regulations .
Week 5 reflections and thoughts
I learned about the rights and responsibilities of students and teachers in different countries.
Three applications
1. I will make the class for open-mind for students who can show the opinion of school.
2. I will treat students in equal.
3. I will be ethical for teaching in the class. Not only for teaching but everything that i have to do in the future.
Pakorn S.
Three applications:
1) Helping my students knowing their rights and what they are forbidden apparently in the school is one of my expectations of teacher life in the future.
2) This lecture of week five has reminded me to know teacher's rights and responsibilities in the rest of my teaching life.
3) I suppose that review process of curriculum is one of the most significant methods for promoting students' skills. Clarifying the roles of individual trustees, board chairs and directors of education and promoting student achievement and well being, delivering effective and appropriate programs will lead a successful education.
week five discussion was extra knowledge to share about.Accepts of very few issues that had occured in India like staff or teachers meeting are rarely held, considering teachers as parents and God, and then not to talk communism in China therefore, "soft and polite approches" in Thailand and standard of Care and Duty is not the same in the level of students in Canada, moreover, even accadamic freedom is possessed for teachers in U.S.A, political agenda is not allowed to promote when more similarities issues were discuessed rather than differences of teachers rights in different countries.
Based on the above, I would apply;
- Issues that concerning to the teachers and students rights, responsibilities and law are mandatory duty to be learned in the educational field.
- As well-awared the basic issues based on the last week sharing, schools can be held liable for failure to maintain a safe environment.
- Again based on the issues, to resolve conflict means to encourage the use of non-violent.
best regard

Reflection #4
Last week we discussed about the legal aspects of the education systems in some selected countries.
Applications
Applications:
1. As an administrator I should make my students and teacher aware of their rights. I should make sure they know their rights.
1. As an administrator I should not only know the rights of my students and teachers but I should also make sure that the rights are respected.
2. As a teacher I should respect my students' rights.
Thank you,
Marcin Kempka
Laxshmi S.
we had dissuted about rights of teachers and students.
Application:
-As a teacher who teaching in Thailand, at first I have to learn relevant law or regulation about education and to know which rights and responsibility that the teacher and students have as well as peformance.
-as a teacher respect students' rights.
-as a administrator, respect teachers' rights
Eva
Apprication ::
1. I understand the culture of internation studends and teaching will be helpful.
2. I learned about the grievance procee in the curriculum of many countries. I also was thinking about solutions.
3. I will choose the best curriculum of each country and apply it in my classroom.
Week 5
Applications:
