Learning about the distinct education systems of different countries was quite a good experience, especially how they are trying tackle the similar problems they face. For me, some of the highlights were a discourse on the merits and deficiencies of the "No Child Left Behind Act" of the US, a candid discussion of the Indian education system and the history of the Chinese education system.

I can use the knowledge I gained from today's session as follows:

1) As I am preparing for a career in educational administration, today's lecture has been

quite effective in motivating me in learning more about other countries' education systems, examine their approaches, adopt their successful methods and avoid their mistakes.

2) I will be able distribute both the material and human resources of my school more effectively in order to improve the learning outcome of my students.

3) The discourse on the "No Child Left Behind Act" has been instrumental in raising my awareness of the disadvantaged students which will help me identify and accommodate their needs better in the future.

Kind regards,
Dr. Murat Kiymaz

Another great discussion we had tonight. It was very interesting to learn about different education systems of different countries. From the group presentations, I learned that education in China and Thailand used to be only for the elites. Sadly, it is still true in many parts of the world that the only elites are getting the best of the best. I want to help the disadvantaged students so that they can have equal opportunity in education.
From today’s discussions and presentations, although I’m not interested in becoming a school admin, I’d like to suggest my school administration to examine the education systems and approaches of different countries so that we can improve our school system. For example: No junk food in schools system in Canada. I think that’s a good way to promote healthy ways of living.
Three things I want to apply in my teaching are:
1) Learning from mistakes: I need to evaluate my teaching styles everyday. I need to be open-minded and willing to accept the constructive criticism from my peers so that I can improve my teaching.
2) Teacher-centered approach vs. Student-centered approach: In recent years, there has been much discussion about the disadvantages of teacher-centered approach. However, I believe that there are many benefits of teacher-centered approach. For example: Teachers will know at what stage students are in their learning at all times and can give immediate feedback and correction. I want to adopt both approaches in my teaching.
3) Instead of focusing on the test scores, I want my students to have the passion of learning so that they can become a life long learner.

Tonight’s class was interesting. I felt that the various presentations were very informative and provided good insights to the issues faced by each country. I was fascinating for me that India and Thailand, education started first in the temple and that it was for the elite. It just shows to me how neighboring countries can influence each other. My three applications will stem from the discussions after the presentations.

1) First Dr. Wattana said something which caught my attention: “Asians are passive- we have to believe what the teacher says.” Being third cultured and having grown up in an American school, I never realized this. I thought everyone was the same. However, after attending college- I quickly began to realize that there was a difference. I also began to see that I was passive in the classroom as well. I do know that I’m a bit reserved when it comes to sharing my ideas and opinions, but I cannot really say if it’s an “Asian” nature or just my personality.
So my application to this is to do the opposite of what was mentioned in class. I’m not trying to say that Asians are wrong. However, I feel (from a personal point of view) that expressing opinions, sharing, and asking questions in the moment can be advantageous as a student as well as a teacher. In a sense you become more active in collecting information.

2) Secondly, when China presented, on their last slide they mentioned something called AQ (adversity quotient). From the discussion, I gathered that it was the ability to face problems, handle it, and come through successful. It was mentioned, I think, that China wanted to implement teaching this to their students in the future, if they’re not doing it already.
I think that this is a good idea. I would like to teach this even to my kindergarteners. Although I know it might be difficult because according to Piaget children in kindergarten age are egocentric in nature, I still think that we can teach children how to handle problems at an early age. For example, if they face a problem about sharing toys, I could help them understand the concept of sharing.

3) Lastly, I remember Murat mentioning something about synthesizing teacher-focused and student-focused practices for the benefit of the students and to teach efficiently. As a novice teacher this is great advice! This means to me that I have to do my research when it comes to understanding my content, but it also means I have to think of creative ways to get students involved and truly get something significant from the learning experience.

Overall it was a great discussion in class tonight. I look forward to next class where we discuss the legal systems within the educational systems in various countries. Good job everyone.

Hearing about the education system from the 5 countries, it is quite clear that these systems have an influence of their respective philosophies. It is not right or even relevant to say that one is better than the other as each one have their advantages and areas of improvement. The best and always useful solution is to integrate the best of all worlds.
However, I really liked one thing about the education system in Canada (Ontario) where the teachers are supported and trained if they are lacking in a certain area. So, they are given an opportunity to improve themselves. Also the point about students having to take a second language, I think is very useful especially in this age of globalization. But even more important now a days is the third language.
There was also a discussion on student-centered education. Many argued that the concept of student centered education is not completely understood here in Thailand and Asian countries and they apply it wrongly. They simply used it in school as a term to promote themselves without providing the teachers with the education about it.

Applications
1. Identifying the cultures of students and trying to add something from their culture into the classroom for the other students appreciate and increase their knowledge about it. Thematic teaching- Having international week to encourage love and respect for all cultures and nationalities.

2. Learning a second language is fundamental in this globalized world. However, it should be taught from a young age and the school culture needs to encourage the speaking and usage of that language.

3. Student centered- It is important to provide teachers with the knowledge about how to apply it to the classroom. The real concept of student-centered learning should be understood and then applied to the classroom for the benefit of the students.

When: 23.06.2010
We discussed different educational systems: India, China, Thailand, Canada, and Texas.

We could learn about what different countries do in order to provide the best education to their citizens.

The system are quite different, yet there are lots of similarities. All of them want their students to be successful and get the best education possible.

Applications:
1. As an administrator, I should see what other are doing but I should not forget about differences in culture between countries. I should not copy the system blindly, I should adjust it to my student's culture etc.
2. As an admin I should take my teachers' opinions into consideration and listen to them. Like in Texas where pretty much all the teachers are stressed out about the test scores of their students. As an admin, I would listen to them and see how it could be changed so their enjoy their jobs more which will result in them being better teachers.
3. Globalization brings about great opportunities. I should make sure that the students at my school, district, etc. learn at least one foreign language so they have unlimited options when they go to university - they can go anywhere in the world and do not have to be limited to a county where they were born or where they are living.

Reflection # 4

Yesterday we had another great discussion in class regarding the education system in different countries. One thing that I found very interesting is the fact that many of them encourage students to take a different language as a second language. Even here in Thailand many schools are providing this option, which i feel in this era is very important.

From the group discussion it was mentioned that China , Thailand and India provided education only for the elite. This didn't come as a surprise to me as Ihave learnt about the culture and the impact it has on the education system. As the caste system in India has a great impact for the education there.

Overall, I learned alot and look forward to the legal rights in these countries regarding the education system.

3 Applications:

1. Learning a second language is very important in this world. However, it should be taught from a young age, and we encourage the speaking and usage of that language.

2. Try to encourage each student in their class to come forward and share information regarding their culture. By this as a teacher we will also be able to understand our students and try to add activities regarding culture and language in class.

3. In this globalized world, we as teachers face a diverse group of peers and students. I myself would love to learn different languages apart from the five (5) that I already know, so that when I talk to peers in their language it might help them to be more comfortable while talking.

Week 4 class,we have discussion about education system in different country. It's so different culture that I think I can apply to my student as followings:

1.Testing is one of evaluation system that can be used to know what students have learned ,but not too serious cause of pressure

2.Althought Teacher-centre is the old style of teaching ,but I think it is very useful for some student.

3.Child-centre is very well to let student think about something new or they can image something that they want to learn and discuss.

Week 4- Reflections on the Different Educational System-

We had a great discussion yesterday, both useful for the Educational Administration and Curriculum/Instruction students. Some information deals with the number of years that students spend from Primary to Secondary, some are just 10 years and others are 12 years.

-The educational system in Texas focuses more on the test scores from the standardized test. I think this is too stressful for the teachers. As to what I heard, their income is based on the test scores of their students. Just imagine, even their income depends on the results of the test scores and come to think of it, these are highly qualified teachers with master degree, even their self-esteem is affected. From Grade 3 onwards they focused on reading and math. I believe that every student varies, from their looks, to their talent, skills, abilities, habits, hobbies, etc., some maybe good in memorizing, some maybe good in other aspects of learning.

-In India they want to bring down the ratio of the students to one teacher, from 1 = 34 to 1=20. I think the class size greatly affects the learning process and the behavior of the students as well. Also, it’s not easy for the teacher to manage the class. In my school, we do have the same problem and I hope that the admin would try their best to resolve the problem.

-I like the cooperative learning in Canada because of the considerations they give to the students, like programming and placement. They also practice the ‘teacher buddy type system’ for new/failing teachers. These teachers are given the chance to improve on their teaching knowledge and abilities with the help of the well-experienced teachers. What I like most is the involvement of parents in the education of their son/s and daughter/s.

-In China, students are also given A.Q. (Adversity Quotient) aside from I.Q. and E. Q. - Why? Parents are reluctant to share information to their children –In school; students are given the chance to face life as it is. Schools offer camps and students are given ‘survival’ situations to understand the real world behind them, for them to be able to solve their own problems later on in their life.

These are the things that I would like to apply-

1) I’ll adopt the “teacher’s buddy system” but having the “student buddy system” instead. Pairing a weak student to a strong one would be very beneficial as this student could however help his or her classmate (academically and build self-confidence). Also, cooperative learning (mixed with weak and strong students) is very helpful in the classroom.

2) I’ll incorporate English conversation (through role-playing) with topics relating to ‘survival’, for my students to understand how to handle obstacles, problems in the real life situations and for them to learn the moral values also.

3) I’ll look at the different areas when it comes to evaluating my students. Focusing on one aspect would be so unfair for them. I’ll also incorporate several subjects like science, math and reading in my lessons.

Thanks and regards- Ms. Evangeline A. Concepcion

This week I am not going to reflect on what somebody said or mentioned during the lesson, instead I am going to reflect on my own feelings.
What I realized all through the lesson was that it's a great thing to have a chance to study in a multicultural classroom.
We were studying the educational systems of different countries and we had at least one student from each country to share his/her own experiences with us. According to me that was amazing. I was really into learning when they started to tell about their own educational experiences and it was more effective than just learning from the diagrams, charts and articles.

This week my 3 applications will be based on the effectiveness of learning directly from some other people's experiences.

1)As I am a science teacher, once a year I will try to arrange a foreigner friend to come to my classes as a lecturer and tell about what kind of activities they do in science lessons in his/her own country. I believe that this will help my students to enlarge their visions.

2)Encourage my students to make friends from different countries as this will help them to see from different perspectives.

3)At the moment I am teaching in a Thai school and all of my students are Thai. But if I teach in an international school in the future; I will get the students to tell their friends about the environment and the ecosystems in their home countries so the kids can learn from their own peers more effectively.

There had come a great discussion again, that is the ed6007 Foundations of Education class. Education systems ,in different coner is such an essential part to be discussed as learning is being on its various directions. Meanwhile, any centered of learning itself stands benifitually. All group presentations had highlighted to the importaint issues that had experienced by each countries.
applications;
- Dr. Suwattana's words- Some students in Thailand replied that when they were asked, "They love going around and make reaches outside the campus is because they love to say now-a-days' is student-centered" Thus, I support her example as if there would be needed to use both teacher-centered and student-centered at the fields in proper ways.

- based on the belief that setting high standards and establishing measurable goals can improve individual outcomes in education, No Child left Behind, outlines for parents involvement is a vital part in students achievement.

-As a whole, synthesis education system is the way could be fullfiled the gap of improvement.

Thanks.

From Wednesday’s class, we learned various educational systems of different countries. I was especially interested in Montessori education in India, which one of my group members presented. The philosophy of Montessori education is that children can learn most from its experiences and not from just reading textbooks and listening to teachers. In this kind of education, a teacher is an enabler who helps learners to accomplish their tasks without interfering them. The learners are allowed to pursue their interest in prepared environment, and they learn from the environment and nature. Montessori’s view is now not only for elementary education but also applied to middle and high school education as well. I did not know this kind of education exists in India, and I felt that Montessori’s view can help learners be motivated and enjoy learning.
3 applications
1) In the class, we can observe and talk to students and find out what his or her interests are. Then, students pursue their interest in a long-term project or research work through a semester. Students can choose anything. Maybe, music, cooking, sports, etc. At the end of the semester, students present their work in the class. Maybe one or two hours in a week, we can have “special project” hour, where students can work on their own project or research.
2) We can promote learning outside of the classroom. Try to have many field work or field trips whenever possible. For example, for social studies, we can arrange a day trip to a factory. I remember that when I was an elementary school student, we had a field trip to rice filed where farmers taught children how to plant rice. I had lived in a city, so it was the first occasion that I had ever touched rice plants (not the rice packaged at the supermarket). It was really a good experience to see where our stable food comes from and how hard it is to grow food.
3) In many Asian countries, especially in middle and high school, there are strong emphasis on memorization and studying for exams. I remember my high school was just like that. Of course memorization and exams are important, but applying Montessori’s view in some of the subjects will help students find and pursue their interest and be more motivated.

Thanks!

Here are the key points what we are talking about:
Canada
Help students at-risk
Must teach learning strategies
Have a high school preparation requirement
Classes must prepare children for everyday life and workforce
We also get at-risk teachers, and the experience teachers will help them.
Texas
Pay attention on test score: math and reading
No child left behind---decrease the gap between white and black students. Social equity
Have take TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills)
Parents and children may choose the school
Teachers are many stresses on the exam, because students get low scores, and the teachers have less money, or the school may close.
They have oil and they are very rich and get money from state. In addition, the tuition fee is very low.
India
National exam will be taken in the 14~15 year of children. ---If fail, no life in India
Women education situation is better
Thai
Teaching is in the transition from teacher-centered to the student-centered.
Some good things in education were lost, and the students had lower load, and Thai students master study better in 14 years before.

Applications
1. Memory comes first, and we can talk about how to create new things in the future.
That is a good point I get first the teacher in this lesson.
It reminds me to help students get solid foundation first, and then let them think about how to use it in more creativities way.
2. Treasure your culture in your own countries. Each country has different education advantages and disadvantages. We should respect and know it very well at first. In addition, grasses are greener in the other fences. Do not look down upon your own countries’ education when you learn other countries’ education system.
As a teacher, we should remind our students of valuing their education system and culture at first, find the advantages, and preserve it well. It helps them to be self-esteem. When they go abroad, they may feel proud of their countries. Teach them to be open-minded. That is the way we can absorb others advantages.
3. For at-risk teachers, the help from the experience teacher is very important.
In fact, I think I am an at-risk teacher in teaching pre-school. However, learning by doing, and the experience teacher do give me a lot of help and real situation.

Reflection #2: Education systems in selected parts of the world.

From the presentations and discussions in class, I found out that different governments have different education systems for their people. Whereas Ontario and Texas focus on specific things such as discipline and how to improve certain specific groups of people, other countries like India and China still try to built their education systems in such a way as to reach their entire populous. I was particularly impressed by Ontario’s program of Teachers at risk. Also from the discussions, it became apparent that culture is a big part of education since it was reflected in all the education systems discussed.

Applications
1. Different students in the same classroom have different needs that should be addressed in order to effectively impart knowledge to them.
2. Understanding different cultural backgrounds of your students is important in ensuring that you deliver to each student the right content in the right way.
3. As a teacher, I need to step back every ones in a while to evaluate what I’ve been doing, lest I fall into the category of teachers at risk.

I learned the difference system of each countries. I like all of the presentations that very useful for me in the future. I also learned about no child left behind in the Texas and they will focus on the score test of student that can measure the standard of school. My three applications will be
1. Student-center is very hard to do in my opinion.

2. In China will have the examination for all state that every students can test it.

3. I think we should consider on the mind of student not the system.
we should find the talent of each student that I believe we can find in everyone.

It was interesting to learn about education systems of different countries.Since it has its own political policy, it also has its own education system, which is very different from my country's education system. I would say that eventhough it has its won different system, every countries want to give the best education to citizens which is suitable to their cultures.

Applications:
(1) I tern to know that many countries' education systems are good in their own culture and society. But,I think, it would be unwise to copy and apply them completely in our own culture and society. From the point of administrator,I need to cut out some practices or policies of these systems in order to fit with our society.
(2) The lesson remind me to check my own education system, whether it has more strong (good) points or not.
(3) I can see many strong and weak points of other countries' education system and:so, I can avoid mistakes in the future.

Learning different education system of different countries is very attractive to students, who were in the class, to compare those views of education system and every presentations of each group were really good in week four. As for me, "No Child life behind", this revision caught my mind in order to think of that every child should be able to meet the high learning standards of the state where he or she lives. Because I have seen many children, who have no opportunity to learn high learning standards not only in my countries but also in other countries. Furthermore, It was apparently to understand the education system of Thailand for me. This group presented and compared the past education system and present education system of Thailand. Then, Dr.Suwatana shared some education systems of Thailand that most students in Thailand and other Asian countries as well focus on memorization.
These are applications of week four:
1) The change, "No Child Left Behind", is the tool of raising my thought helping the students, who are not able to learn high standard education in my country,in the future.
2) I will try to be better educator in the future and if I am a principle of a school, I will appoint the qualified teachers because I want my students to be taught by highly qualified teachers.
3) It is clear to clarify education system of my country because of group presentation in Thailand. Most Asian countries, including my country, strongly focus on memorization for sitting exam in school. I am sure that it is not a good method to teach students to memorize what they learned. Let students in order to create their own thinking is more effective method in the future that I suppose.

We had a great discussion again in the fourth week. We discussed about education system of five countries; China, India, Thailand, Texas, and Canada. All systems have based in different Philosophy and culture. In China, study time is too long and students are not motivated for their own interest. People from elite group played important role in Thailand and India education system. And test score is priority in Texas education. Finally, I leant some weak points as a good example for education system. And there was also about the student-centered has not matched fluently yet in Thailand education system.
1. From the point of administers; they must organize education system which based on own culture and make sure that there is not too much gap compared to others’ countries system. I think this is also the way to be effective to students.
2. From China system, they should encourage students’ personnel interest. There should not have, such as, giving too much homework and learning style is a kind of passive too. Let them have time to do their own interest. This is a kind of motivation and effective learning in education.
3. Renovating in system and curriculum is necessary in order to meet the requirement of society.

I have learnt further general information about five different countries' education system on the day of 4th week of ed6007 class. According to each group presentation, all the five different countries provide their excellent education system to all their children to be educated. The only different thing is their ways of application and dedication.
Applications
1. we must ensure our students that education is for all regardless of religion, race, sex, land, the poor and the rich.
2. we must motivate our students always to be alert and to take others' good example.
3. we must accumulate some good points that are beneficial to all our generations from others' education system and apply them to our own education system.

Continuing with the sound reflections everybody, nice work. @Zhangya, PLEASE come up with some applications next week. If you are having trouble, do ask some of your fellow students to explain the applications; as all those posting on here so far understand the process nicely. Thanks!

Learning different education system is very interesting. In my opinion, it is very important and useful for improving our education system. By observing the other countries’ education system, we came to see each others’ pros and cons and this will be a great help for us to imitate the good points for us. On Wednesday’s presentation and discussion, I like one of the Texas’s system that ‘No child left behind.’ because we will have to use this kind of system or method in our country because most child from rural areas were left behind in education. One other thing that I find the similarity is that China’s learning system and our system. May be because of we both are Asians. That is the students don’t talk much, learn quietly in class, teachers mostly tell what to do if not the students won’t know what to continue. After the class, three applications that came out from my mind is that
1-We will need more advocacy for the importance of education, encouragement and supports for the rural areas to imitate ‘No child left behind’ in education.
2-Start using student-centered system but also not ignoring the teacher-centered. We will need to use both of them for the goods.
3-Encourage the children to learn other international languages so that this will help them for further education because one can only stay in one’s own place for the improvement. Should learn, compare and observe from others in order to make things better and better.

Week four reflections and thoughts,
Surely, i got many useful things from week four class. As for easterners, we could learn about western education system such as the education system of Ontario and Texas. Eastern and western have differences not only in philosophies but also in education. As for western students, they can learn about eatern education system. Most of the western education systems are student-centered but eastern has teacher-centered.

Application,

1. i can apply some of western education styles to our eastern education field.

2. i can use the combination of western and eastern education system in my future to be effective.

3.Human resources such as qualified teachers and students are very important. As for teachers, they really need teaching training to be effective in teaching area.

thanks,

I must say we had an interesting week discussing about a few educational systems around the world. I think the class gave me a few issues I would like to do future research on especially regarding how people are trying to solve the problems my friends had discussed about in their respective presentations. For example, in Texas, they have the "No Child Left Behind" Act where all students after Grade 2 have to take a multiple choice test in Reading and Math, its like a standardized test for all students around that age. There are many good points to this like equality is maintained between the whites and the hispanics for example. But the problem is, what about those students who have talents in other fields like arts, music etc? How does this test affect them?

However, some of the applications would be:

1) I like the concept of have standardized tests at an early age like the people in Texas have as in India they just have national exams after 8 years of education. I think if a country needs to have standardized tests then they should do at an early age, so if any students fail or are left out then its easier to start from A again. For example, if a person never really watered a plant that well in the beginning then in the middle a few leaves would start dying, and if they try to take control measures sometimes its nearly impossible to make that yellow/brown leave become green again. And, maybe tests could be in more fields where the parents could choose like music, arts or any other general field.

2)It seems that in China, a lot of emphasis is given to memorization and the students are usually spoon-fed. Being independent is not encouraged to a high level and the teaching approach is very text book oriented. After all of this, I get to hear that according to UNESCO, China shows a 99% literacy rate from the year 2000-2007. So the educational system must be good then as most of the citizens are educated. But what happens after that? We don't get educated to sit at home, we need to apply or skills and knowledge and earn a living however it is. Therefore, it's a good thing about text book oriented at times, but I feel that students should also be taught in an environment where they are encouraged to be creative and practical as well.

3)In Canada, it seems that students need to learn a second language as well. In India, in some english medium schools, students need to learn a third language as well as English is the first followed by Hindi/Bengali/Punjabi(India's native language) and then they also require students to know other languages like French/German. I think this becomes really useful for students especially since the whole world is highly interactive.

However, there were more issues which I was concerned about like in Thailand where it is still teacher centered rather than student centered. Another issue would also be regarding India where the educational system is really good but the social rate of return is really low as people actually go abroad more now. Furthermore, there are also many cases where girls are not allowed to study as a few families think that girls education should be limited to knowing the household chores only.

Each group had an interesting presentation about the Education system of India, China, Canada, United States and Thailand.
But the United States " No Child Left Behind" act , the latest federal legislation that enacts the theories of standards-based education reform, making me realized the world is going to reform the education system in this 21 century. It makes me thinking about "The Post-American World" written by Fareed Zakaria and he mentioned about the competitive edge of Education system which effects on the nation’s power.

He said that because of this 21century is knowledge era, all Chinese students and Indian students try to come out as an educated person around 500,000 every year to work at highest level and they all are trying to reform their education system. But in the meantime, there are only 70,000 American students every year that are ready to work at highest level. But American students are still better than Asian students in creative thinking and it is still huge different between them.

So, as I always see from admin point of views,

My application about the International Education System is,

1. The world is changing and the globalization makes us keep in touch with what the world is happening every day. We have to take the good system if it is useful for us whether it is come from Western Philosophy or Eastern Philosophy.

2. About the China, I admit that I never heard about AQ (adversity quotient) even I heard many times about (EQ) and (IQ). China education system is only based on Confucius Philosophy in past years but now they started changing and I feel like they are always trying to combine the Western Philosophy and Eastern Philosophy if it can get benefits for them.

3. Thirdly, as I am IT teacher, I always thinking to transform the school with Information Technology because it can improve the learning system for the students. Most of the kids are really interested in Computer these days and we can try to introduce the main subject likes Math and Science with using the latest technology software.

I learned many things about educational systems from different countries. I like "no one left behind" in Texas's system. It is good to know a different educational systems and use to bring it for improving our educational system.

My three applications:

1.It is important to review the class size. The class size should be around 20 students per a class.

2.Educator should point for career guidance.school conselors should help high school students for guiding student in making course selection.Conselors and teachers need to focus on encouraging desire of student, for example, what they want to be in the future. It's not just only testing on thier exam.

3.I think I will use the school's analysis of strengths and weakknesses in teaching and use of assessment to promote learning ,lesson observations and discussion with pupils for improving the school.

As week 4 presentation I had learned various of educational system among different countries.
It's to my surprise that the teacher's salary depends on students' score in Texas. That means if the students get low score and the teacher will get low salary or will be fired. In my eyes, considering this way to decide the teacher's salary is quite unfair. The word that EDUCATION actually including two sections, that is teaching and learning. obviously teaching indicate the teacher and learning indicate the students. They couldn't separation. Process of teaching-learning become effective need both of them well cooperation. Not only teacher effort in a single aspect but also abilities and right attitude for study of the students.

Application:
-educational system was established depends on the county situation, especially as a foreign teacher should be to learn more educational system and country background which in you stay.
-comparison of the educational system of the country I work and my own country, find out the difference, can be helps me to teach.
-tell the different culture between my country and students' country, make interested in classroom, let the students learning undergo a kind of relax environment.

Dr . Andy i am sorry to post this reflection so late .

It was interesting to learn about different country’s educational system which gave me a variety of information on different educational systems. As I am also from an Asian county I found some similarities in Thai and Chinese education system with educational system in my county such as “Believe in teacher.” Different from this concept, I also liked Ontario educational system which is very strong educational system having cooperative and experimental learning as well as of parents and community involvement in the learning system.

Since I am preparing myself to be teacher in future here are some applications which I will apply in my teaching.

1. Student centered learning: Even though it is called a student centered learning system in some Asian countries it is not a fully student centered. In my country teacher usually stands in front and teach all the way to the end of the class. This will not enhance student’s ability to gain knowledge. There has to be full participation and involvement of the students in learning so that they will understand more. Learners have full responsibility in learning.

2. While going throughout the Chinese educational system I came to know that there is a great emphasis in place examination which gives students more stress in the form of homework and memorization. Education system has some examination requirement but we should not give too much stress on it. The student has different ability of gaining knowledge. They come from different background, different environment that’s why their learning ways are also different. There should be a different level of exam for different groups of student according to their capabilities. Examinations should be set according to the groups.

3. Classrooms size should not have high or low numbers of students. Around 15-20 students in one class is about right so that the teacher can easily interact with each students.

Class Reflection: Multicultural Education

From the last class I learnt about the important of multicultural education in class. In Thailand our country is the good example for the country that can learn from the other culture and apply into their culture. But now the society is change the young people less aware about their own culture identity they open for the new culture easily. Multicultural competence is really important for the teacher not only the ability to understand the other culture thinking but also understand and pound in their own culture identity. Now the world become one the trend of pluralism society has increasing. Even in this lesson focus the multicultural on race but we know that it’s not only the different of race that is the important of culture conflict but also the religion, political thinking, social status etc.
Multicultural education can influence the administrator and teacher to create the new curriculum, new assessment that we never think before. In the case of Erin Gruwell the new teacher that faces with the conflict among the student in her class. Her students have different race and different life. She tried to find the way to communicated to her student first. She found the way to decrease the resistant from her student. She tough the student to see the same thing in human even come from different culture that is everybody wants to be respect from the other. She let them told their own story by writing the diary. She encourages the students to read the book that relevant to their background and it really inspire them. She didn’t teach too much she focuses on facilitate, encourage, questioning and advising. Most of her student change their life from gangster to the university student. Some of her students got PhD degree. This is the interesting case for me that can relate me to this lesson.

After reading and examining some of the Asian countries and of Western countries' education systems, it was quite interesting. Each had its' own successful approaches as well as more room for improvements. Teachers in many of Asian Countries like China, Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan are very well respected by parents, students, and society. Morality and characters education is consider one of the major subject for all grade levels. Only the elite have opportunities to further high education. Whereas, in the Western countries like Canada, France, and US --provide grants to encourage higher education for all. The most important is that everyone wanted what's best for students and to become a successful citizen

Applications:
1. It's an eye opening for me to see different views that I've never seen before of education system. Respect the differences in cultures. They have their own reasons and history for what they do though it might be different from other countries.
2. Teacher-focused vs. student-focused, balance in between is better than being extreme on one end.
3.In the U.S. test score sometimes become the focus attention and forgetting to meet the needs of the child.
