We discussed about school improvement on this week 13 and found out that there are two categories in school improvement which is ingredients; elements and recipe; how to make the ingredients out. We got total some valuable ideas in school improvement by two groups presentation which are 1) systematic approach, 2) consider multi-level perspectives, 3)strategies to help strength school capacity to change, 4) collaborative joint work, 5) student’s achievement, 6) flexible structure and culture, 7) interval conditional, 8)external support, 9) planning the change, 10)focus on teaching-learning experience, 11) problem coping, 12)school wide project, 13) equal attention to structure culture, 14) focus on teaching process, 15) no school is an island 16) drive towards institutionalization and 17) reduce the gap between best and worst. My application will be,
1-I will make sure that my school has its vision, mission and core values and if not, I’ll suggest the school committee set these because in my opinion, having common goal, methods and values bring in harmony and draw things back to the right track when we slip out of the track. These can also check the structure and the process whenever we do the evaluation or help making the improvement towards the goal.
2-Having the teacher appraisal annually only for checking teacher self-evaluation, in a flexible way because teachers already stressed with their work and I believe the appraisal help professional development in some ways.
3-I will be collaboratively working not only with the teachers, parents, and school committee also with the other school as Manpreet said no school is an island and cannot be alone for the development.

It was one of the very fruitful classes with different group discussion and performance. It was also very effective teaching strategy for students’ achievement that I believe. Honestly, although didn’t read the lesson before coming to the class, I have got some useful points from the lesson in the class because of teaching strategy.
First of all, students was separated by teacher for six groups then the teacher let students to create themselves how to manage their discussion in order to list ten main points from the lesson and to brainstorm what is the most important related to the lesson among groups during (35) minutes. After discussion, two groups presented how they manage their time to get the points during the limited time and illustrated their points. Then, explain why they chose these points (systematic approach, collaborative work, student’s achievement, external support planning the change, problem coping, school wide project, equal attention to structure and culture, focusing on teaching process, evaluation).
Applications:
1)To improve the school, it is necessary to make a thorough evaluation of their needs (reading course, quality of staff development and equipments, books and materials, curriculum initiatives, local area, structure and culture, problem solving and so on).
2)After that, school program might be planned in order to do in a more purposeful and dependable way and to support their needs.
3)I found that collaboration can widen opportunity and help to give attention to vulnerable group of learners in the class. Furthermore, collaboration is effective in helping problem-solving and leading each other to the goal. Marching with stakeholders(student, parent, teacher, staff and outside school or organizations)would make more school improvement.

Best with,
Aye Aye Khaine

School Improvement is our theme for today's topic. How awesome to be in a group for discussion. It's a great model for what school should do. Each of us represent from different departments seating down to find the, what kind of strategic plan they should use, where they should begin or should go further. Then come back to report back to a larger group...and come up with an action plan putting together for best or for worst.

Applications:
1. It's hard for only a small group of people like the school improvement team to find out what need to be done, my challenge is to get more involve someway in my school as well.
2. The approach of grouping people into team for discuss tonight is great! I will use this in my class again.
3. School that identify their problem, admitted them, and a willingness to change. Not only for a school, but it worked for each individual as well. I will also use this for my own personal life as well.

Wee 13 lesson was all about School Improvement. It aims to enhance student outcomes through teaching approaches (curriculum) and strengthen the schools organizational ability. Educational change rests on a number of assumptions- the school as the centre of change, a systematic approach to change, the internal conditions of schools as a key focus for change, accomplishing educational goals more effectively, multi-level perspective, integrative implementation strategies, and the drive towards institutionalization.
On classifying school improvement efforts- it depends on the aspirations and experience of the schools and the individual involved. We need to look at the principles and proven aprproaches for guidance. However, there are also underlying problems. In analyzing range of school improvement (because of foci and philosophies).
Two Broad Categories-
-ingredients (research-based and table d' hote
menu)
- recipe (mechanistic: The step-by-step guidelines); Organic strategies: suggests principles
-This way of thinking is easy to classify
Improving the Urban High School- Ex. Research-based ingredients by Karen Seashore
* Major findings to improve big city schools-
School- LEA relationship- worked best when LEA provided support and direction.
- Evolutionary approach to planning work best. They claim that planning is the first point where empowerment takes hold.
-Generating ownership of the school vision.
Applications
1. Collaborative and professional relations between the school staff and surrounding communities.
2. School should instead focus on changes that can adopt the organization and ethos of the school rather than individual.
3. School program and curriculum planning

This week topic is all about “School Improvement” and yesterday
I read "Is Thailand getting more stupid" article written by: Voranai Vanijaka in Bangkok Post Newspaper and he pointed out “International Mathematics and Science Study, Thailand's scores have dipped over the past decade, and the country now ranks in the bottom third of the 36 countries that participated. Since 2007, student performances in Thailand's O-Net national exams have fallen steadily in all five core subjects: Thai, math, science, social studies and English." So when I read comments about this article, everyone pointed out school management problem and also pointed out teachers and administrator cannot use English and Computer well in their school.
It makes me thinking too much and
remind me about this week class topic" School Improvement".

In this week class,we divided six people for each group to find out what are the most important things for school improvement.

For our group, we decided to read one topic for each one because we thought we don’t have enough time. For me, I read about the self- managing school and after we all finished our parts, we tried to find out what are the best 10 important things for school improvement.

I found out “Collaborative school management cycle” provides the basis of the approach in my topic and I found out the management cycle what would be very useful for Educators.

1. Goal setting and need identification.

2. Policy making, with policies consisting of purposes and broad guidelines.

3. Planning of programmes.

4. Preparation and approval of program budgets.

5. Implementing

6. Evaluating

From above 6 management cycle, I will try to spread my thoughts to use those in my school when I become school administrator.
Application,

1) I would have put School mission and Philosophy is one of the most important thing in the school. Because when we really need to improve our school, we need to understand what our mission (or) school philosophy is and I feel like it is the foundation to take a next step to improve my school.

2). Policy making, planning is also important for the school and we need to find out what would be the best for each school.

3) I feel like if we want to improve our school, we need to work together. It shouldn't have a problem because of foreigners and local staffs working in the same organization. Unity is strength and all the teachers, school administrator, co-coordinators should work together to help the children what they need and School's principle should listen teachers' voices too.Working alone in the office and making the decision is not a good idea to improve their school.
In the end, school first priority should be students and we should make the best program and curriculum for them and their parents and then their country.Of course!

Thanks,
N.HT Linn

This week we discusses school improvements. We read quite an interesting chapter on what a school improvement is and how improvement works or rather, should work.

We had a group discussions (6 students in one group) where we discussed the ideas and decided which are the most important or useful points on the reading. After that we shared our ideas with the rest of the group.

Application:
1. As an administrator I MUST understand that change does not happen overnight. It takes time and to see whether something works or not I need to give it some time. In some cases it might be a couple of months, in other cases, such as curriculum, it might be a couple of years! It is crucial that I understand it.
2. as an administrator, I need to make sure I have teachers on ,my side. They will the ones most probably implementing the change or they will be most probably affected by it. I need to make sure they understand what is going to happen, why it is going to happen and they support the change.
3. As an administrator, but also a teacher, I should not be too proud.
I should not be "I know it all" type of person. If I want to improve something, it is wise to ask experts or those who have done it before. It will help me avid the mistakes they made and the process will surely be smoother and more effective.

Thank you,

Marcin

Just as with our activity and discussion, in these reflections I am finding a balance of process and product issues which to me says as a team we are really starting to understand and embrace these concepts.

This week we discussed about school improvement, in my group, we talked about investable change – of course if there has to be improvement. We said that first we have to identify the change (evaluate the need for change and set goals), then give it direction, as in we don’t want to be wandering around. We also noted that the said change must be stable and at the same time continuous towards the said direction. We mentioned that this entire process requires unity and support; it needs collaboration from all the stake holders.

APPLICATION
1. As a teacher, I should continuously change or vary my teaching approaches to adopt to the dynamic academic environment.
2. I should always involve students in identifying what suits them better in terms of teaching approaches and other issues.
3. I should always have my goals clear, as in which direction am I going.

at week thirteen, we were assigned several groups to disscused about school improvement. It is the more extensive definition of the school improvement as an alternative approach to educational change that we will elaborate during this chapter. We do this by reviewing and trying to make sense of a variety of efforts to bring about and support school improvement. In particular we:
1.expand the definition of school improvement;
2.classify the range of school improvement efforts;
3.evaluate the effectiveness of various school improvement approaches;
4.describe ways in which school improvement can be supported.
In Joyce's perspective: each approach emphasizes different aspects of school culture ate the outset,in the other words, they provide a range of ways of 'getting into'school improvement. Each door opens a passageway into the culture of the school. His poin is well taken: move into action while decision making, and make school improvement everyone's business.

Application:
- teaching quality is the most factor impact admission rate, and improve teaching quality needs qualified teacher, so a good work environment and enough support for teacher can be attract and maintien the talents.

-school improvement not only improve extenal environment but also intenal, that is study climate, create a positive study climate can be increase students' interested.

-as a administrator, we provide suffice support to teacher as possible as can. As a teacher,as a member of the school, we have responsibility for give feedback or effective suggestion to administrator.

Improving our schools is a big and important issue in the educational system. In the world we are living, everything changes rapidly and continuously. The technology used in every area, changes into better, from day to day. So,in such a fast growing world,we should keep our schools up to date,in order to keep our schools' validity in our educational system. But of course this improvement always need careful thinking and planning and also it takes time.

My applications:
1)In my school,I can initiate to form a committee to work on our school's improvement and get all the teachers work together in the project.

2)While working on our school's improvement, try to get the ideas of different perspectives such as parents, students, administrators and teachers.

3)Try to pay special attention to make changes flexible according to the culture so that the changes can be effective.

Thank you.

I want to make a special note of how some of you are taking this material (example Gaye, above) as a way to begin the road to improvement or change in your own school and also recognizing that improvement is an ongoing process. This is an excellent way of looking at the issue!

We discussed the school improvement. What are the factors that can improve the school. In my opinion, we should improve the people who work for the school because everything have to begin with the people. Next step will be the structure of the school. If the degree of difference is high, it is hard to handle people in the school. Moreover, school need to find the real goal or vision of the school in order to make people understanding in the same direction. Also, the school can get some supports form outsource. Not only schools where we can collaborate but we can collaborate with business sector e.g. Lactasoy milk company or other establisher company. For the school improvement, I agree with Matcin that we have spend more times to adjustment.

Application :
1. I know what factors should improve in the education institution.
2. The school improvement will spent short times if they get some support form government.
3. Also, focus on the planning of teaching and planning for the future what the school will do for improvement.

School improvement is a approach of educational change such as enhancing student achievement and strength the schools’ capacity for managing change.
I think changing is occurring all the time in the school more or less.
Application
1. If there is a change in a school, collaboration is very important and we can’t reach the goal without working together among all management staff and academic persons.
2. If there is a change in a school, let people in the school knows that we need a change so that they will join in the process. Transparency is also important.
3. If there is a change in a school, there might be some difficulties on the way of changing process, so we need to plan for the risk management to solve the problems.

Last week we had a good preview and discussion on the topic of School Improvement. This is a topic that is close to my heart after a year of teaching with all the accreditation experiences in the very same year. School improvement is not only focusing in a particular area but it is balance between all areas in the school environment including curriculum development, facilities improvement, teachers’ professional development, students’ affair and etc. Nevertheless, the most important thing I felt in this particular topic is that of whether the school as a whole recognizes the need to improve as well as prepared for the change. In reality, it is relatively difficult for school to recognize the need to improve and change unless major issues or problems occur in the school. Nevertheless, people rarely see that there is a need for school to improve, to move forward and to catch the waves of development around the world. This is because school is one of the important institutions that set the foundation for educating future citizens of the world. The world is changing so fast that something new might have been discovered while I am writing this reflection. I totally agree with one of the professors saying that everything in the world is changing very fast; it is very sad to say that the slowest to change is education. Therefore, school improvement is really important not only for the benefit of the school but also the communities circling around the school as to what the author had mentioned at the beginning of the reading that: “No school is an island”. My application for this week will then be:

(1) I will be cooperative and offer my assistance if the school is implementing projects or strategies for school wide improvement.

(2) I will continually update and upgrade myself in the area of teaching so that I can understand and learn new and innovative methods in educating the children.

(3) I will do personal reflection on my teaching every end of the year so that I can improve my teaching for the new school year by listing the strength and weaknesses so that I teach the class more effectively and efficiently in the future.

Last week we had an interacting class in the topic “School Improvement”. This topic reminds me my country where there are lots of needs of improvement in the schools .What I think is that the internal condition of the schools are the key things to be change like school educational goal, curriculum etc and There should be planning to make a change and before planning there must me a in which area it should be change .
Here are some applications which we can use in our school improvement.
1. To improve school there should be always a collaborative work .School administrator have to get the ideas of parents, teachers, person related to educational system, institute etc.
2. School Administrators have to look to the different effect of the change to improve the school , like culture , diversity , population , which are important factor.
3. Planning is most important in improvement but before planning, administrator have to review the available source to implement.
